It’s Happening

We finally did it. We purchased THE rig!  After 3 months of research and planning, the 2018 Coachman Orion 21RS class C motor home is ours; the perfect little home on wheels to transport us around the U.S. on one epic adventure. Despite the incessant questioning from skeptical parents on leaving “stable” jobs (nothing is guaranteed amiright?) and the exclamations of acquaintances saying, “I could never do that!” or “I’d get a divorce for sure if I spent that much time with my wife!” we still plan to hit the road on May 23rd with the goal of following the above route. We quit our jobs and plan to take a break from work for at least 4 months while we embrace tiny living in the huge outdoors. This map was optimized by Randal Olson and for a list of the national parks we plan to visit you can visit here. We plan to join the route at Mammoth Caves in Kentucky and travel counterclockwise from there. We’re going to try our best to fit them all in.

What a beaut eh? We picked the Orion (now affectionately known as Harvey the RV) because of its size (24 ft comes in handy when that’s the cutoff length on some park roads), drivability (handles like our minivan with good back up cameras which also show blind spots when turning), comparatively excellent MPG, and ideal layout of the cabin. Helps too that it was located at a dealership about a hour north of us.

I’m already getting excited with decorating and our start date can’t come soon enough! Our sticks and bricks (as the RV world affectionately calls non-mobile houses) is up for sale and we have a buyer! Closing date is scheduled for April 19th but we plan to hit the road a month later so my husband can work through his date of hire (then 4 weeks of paid vacay baby!).

Love this metal sign I picked up on my January trip to the Silos and Magnolia in Waco, Texas after we spied Jimmy Don across the street flashing a big cheesy grin and waving us over to come check out his handiwork from his trailer. I certainly didn’t realize that this size of adventure was going to happen when I first laid eyes on my extremely lovable husband, but I knew an adventure was going to happen nonetheless. Maybe his impish grin and hyena cackle as he was on his side, kicking himself in a circle in the sand gave it away (another story for another time)?

So here’s to the fun-loving, fancy-free people out there. Embrace your wild at heart. God created an extremely beautiful earth and populated it with unique and talented people and I want to see/experience as much of it and them as I can. I hope you enjoy following along with us as we discover the great U.S. of A. all while we try and figure out this #rvlife.

  1. This is so exciting for y’all! Can’t wait to see all your photos. If you have a little extra time between NV and WY you should check out Crater of the Moon National Monument. You can camp on lava rocks. It rained on our road trip so we had to get a hotel but it was a cool stop on our road trip west!
